Welcome!
My name is Corissa Ruiz, and I teach piano lessons out of my home in Youngsville, North Carolina.
I started taking piano lessons at the age of 6. I learned to play piano using the Suzuki method with my teacher, Mrs. Shucks. After a few years of Suzuki lessons, I began more traditional classical lessons in my home with another teacher, Sharon Kitowski. From there I took classical lessons from Diane Burns, Indianapolis IN. As an adult, I took piano lessons from Anne Scoggin in Wake Forest, NC. I grew up in a musical home, both singing and playing the piano for recreation and in various competitions. I was definitely a shy kid growing up, however I believe I gained a lot of confidence from learning to play the piano. My self-esteem grew, seeing I could practice and progress and learn hard material.
I have 5 years of experience teaching beginner and intermediate students. I also have 6 years of experience accompanying a church congregation on a keyboard. I have enjoyed playing the piano for 24 years.
I am passionate about continuing to educate myself to be a better pianist and teacher. YouTube, podcasts, and books are some of my favorite resources when it comes to learning how to be a better teacher.
Taking piano lessons and playing the piano was, and still is, incredibly therapeutic for me. I loved the one-on-one attention I received from my teacher, and the act of playing the piano allowed me to have a healthy outlet to process emotions and stress. It also taught me the importance of being diligent, so that I could accomplish the songs that were assigned. Playing the piano is something I still do to this day to process emotions and stress, and I get a lot of joy out of it. This skill of using music to process emotions and stress is one that I hope to pass along to all of my students, no matter what their playing level. My hope is that everyone I teach is able to better appreciate music, and the beauty it adds to our world.
I believe every student is unique, and I believe not every child will like me or my teaching style. If I start teaching your child lessons and it isn't working out for them or you, I want to know! I would be happy to recommend another piano teacher in the area. I want your child to enjoy and love their piano lesson time.
